This page explains how Renovation Costs UK handles information when you use our website, guides, and calculator.

What we collect

We collect limited usage information such as pages viewed, approximate device/browser details, and referring sources so we can improve site performance and content quality. We do not ask users to create an account to access guides or the calculator.

Calculator and contact data

Calculator inputs are used to generate your estimate and optional paid report. If you contact us by email, we use the details you provide only to reply and manage your enquiry.

Home Report Analyser uploads

When you upload a Scottish Home Report or RICS Homebuyer Survey to the Home Report Analyser, the PDF is stored privately on Supabase (encrypted at rest) for the sole purpose of generating your plain-English analysis and emailing it back to you. We delete the uploaded PDF within 30 days of submission. The analysis text and your submission metadata (email, optional postcode, purchase price, and worry note) are retained for up to 3 years as a business record. You can request earlier deletion at any time by emailing us.

We use Supabase (storage and database) and Resend (email delivery) as data processors, both under data processing agreements. Analysis is generated by Google's Gemini API; we send the extracted text of your survey for processing under Google's API terms and do not allow Google to use it for training.

Email and marketing

If you give us your email address — for example to have your calculator results sent to you, to subscribe to our newsletter, or as part of completing a paid purchase — we use it only for the purpose you supplied it. If you tick the marketing consent box, we may also send you occasional UK renovation cost updates and tips related to the tools you've used.

We never share your email with third parties for their own marketing. Every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time. We rely on your explicit opt-in (UK GDPR / PECR) for marketing emails, and on legitimate interest for transactional emails such as report delivery and order confirmations.

We use Resend (a third-party email provider) to deliver these emails. Resend processes your email address and message content on our behalf under a data processing agreement.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies for core functionality, analytics, and (where enabled) advertising. We use analytics services such as Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the website.

If ads are enabled on a page, advertising technologies may set cookies to deliver and measure ad experiences. You can manage ad preferences through the on-site consent controls when shown.

Affiliate links

Some links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you make a qualifying purchase. Affiliate partners may use cookies to attribute purchases. For more detail, see our Affiliate Disclosure.

Data retention and protection

We keep data only as long as needed for operational, security, and legal purposes. We use standard technical and organisational controls to protect information, but no online system can be guaranteed fully secure.
